Ruth Gomez

Ruth is currently studying for a Masters in composition with Richard Baker at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is supported by the Mercers’ Company. She previously completed a BMus degree at the Guildhall School with percussion as her principal study.  She also teaches drum kit and percussion to children between the ages of 7 and 16 and feels very strongly and passionately about the importance of music in education.

Ruth began learning the drum kit and percussion at age 13. Whilst at school
she formed a rock band which later turned professional, playing many gigs
throughout the UK. In the six years the band were together they released four singles and an album, receiving air play on radio stations throughout the UK, USA, Japan, and Europe. They recorded an Evening Session for BBC’s Radio One, and their fourth single, written by Ruth, was ‘Song of the Week’ on Steve Lamacq’s Radio One session. They also played at the Reading Festival in 1998 and toured the USA for six weeks in 2000.
